Pedals for Progress: Empowering Women Entrepreneurs in Tanzania

Attendees at the Women empowerment event organized by Lalji Foundation

LALJI FOUNDATION, in collaboration with the Rotary eClub of Masaki and ASAS, launched the Pedals for Progress initiative in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to support women entrepreneurs. This program ran from July 1 to August 8, 2025, and ended with an event at the Little Theatre. The goal of the initiative was to help women with small businesses grow, earn more, and live better.

Before this initiative, many women-led businesses faced limited access to capital, equipment, and markets. This left them struggling to sustain income and household needs. With this project, Lalji Foundation aimed to break these barriers by equipping women with tools, training, and support to achieve financial independence and stability.

Objectives of the Women Empowerment Project:

  • Enabling women to contribute to local economic growth.
  • Promoting gender equality through equal opportunities in entrepreneurship.
  • Building capacity through training in financial literacy, business management, and technical skills.
  • Improving access to capital, equipment, and markets for small women-led businesses.
  • Enabling women to invest in their children’s schooling, healthcare, and better living standards.

Beyond direct beneficiaries, the initiative also created public awareness on women’s empowerment, sustainable development, and the importance of inclusive economic growth. Thanks to ITV and Daily News, the initiative gained wide media coverage. This helped to amplify its reach and highlighting the importance of women’s empowerment in Tanzania.
