LALJI FOUNDATION, in partnership with the Dhalla Family of Kigoma, handed over a borewell to the community of Hanga Village in Kibiti District on 1st February 2026. The project was implemented to address the long-standing challenge of access to clean and safe water, which had forced residents, especially women and children, to travel long distances to unsafe water sources.
Objectives of the project:
- Providing sustainable access to clean and safe water for Hanga Village residents.
- Reducing the incidence of waterborne diseases linked to unsafe water sources.
- Minimizing the burden on women and children who previously walked long distances to fetch water.
- Promoting community ownership, maintenance, and sustainable management of the borewell.
- Supporting socio-economic activities such as small-scale farming, livestock care, and household productivity.
- Strengthening partnerships between donors, local leadership, and the community for sustainable development.
Mr. Salimu Malogwa, speaking on behalf of the Kibiti District Council, commended the initiative, highlighting its transformative impact on daily life, particularly for women and children. He encouraged community members to take ownership of the borewell to ensure its sustainability for future generations. Mr. Salumu Ndame, Chairman of Hanga Village, also expressed heartfelt gratitude, noting that the project will significantly improve health, save time, and enhance overall well-being in the community.
The project benefited the entire Hanga Village community and received media coverage through IBN TV and social media platforms, helping raise awareness about the importance of sustainable water solutions in rural Tanzania.
