A long-standing challenge of clean water in Mateteni Village, Morogoro Region, has finally been addressed. Thanks to a new shallow well commissioned by the LALJI FOUNDATION with the generous support of the Kassamali Haji Khimji Family. For years, residents have faced persistent water shortages, forcing them, especially women and children to walk long distances to unsafe water sources. But now, clean and reliable water is available within the village, benefiting over 3,000 residents.

Objectives of the project:

  • Providing sustainable access to clean water for the residents of Mateteni Village.
  • Reducing long distances walked to fetch water, particularly by women and children.
  • Improving hygiene and sanitation and reducing waterborne diseases.
  • Supporting livelihoods through clean water availability for domestic use and small-scale farming.

During the handover ceremony, Mr. Peason Chambo, Chairman of Mateteni Village, expressed sincere appreciation to the LALJI FOUNDATION, noting that the shallow well has significantly eased access to clean and safe water and reduced daily hardship for the community. The project stands as a meaningful step toward improved health, dignity, and sustainable livelihoods in rural Morogoro. The project and its impact were also highlighted through IBN TV news coverage, amplifying awareness of the importance of sustainable water solutions in rural Tanzania.
