LALJI FOUNDATION, in partnership with Lions Clubs International – District 411C Tanzania, supported the Run for Sight Marathon in Oysterbay, Kinondoni District, Dar es Salaam. The event aimed to raise awareness about preventable blindness and generate funds to support eye care services for underserved communities, including free screenings, medicine, and cataract surgeries.
The initiative encouraged community participation through running, walking, and volunteering, promoting eye health while fostering social responsibility and fitness.
Objectives of the project:
- Promote eye health and prevent blindness through screenings, education, and early treatment.
- Increase access to eye care services for underserved and rural communities.
- Raise funds to support long-term vision care programs, including free eye camps and surgeries.
- Engage the community in health advocacy and awareness campaigns.
- Strengthen partnerships between NGOs, government, and corporate sponsors to ensure sustainability.
Speaking during the event, LALJI FOUNDATION representatives highlighted the importance of preventive eye care and the Foundation’s commitment to supporting vision health initiatives across Tanzania. The marathon brought together community members, volunteers, sponsors, and health advocates, demonstrating the power of collective action in improving public health outcomes.
The event reached thousands of people through media coverage on IBN TV, TBC, Clouds, ITV, and Channel Ten, as well as social media updates on Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp groups.
