On October 9, 2025, the LALJI FOUNDATION handed over a newly constructed shallow well to the residents of Mabana Village in Kilosa District, Morogoro Region. The initiative forms part of the Foundation’s ongoing commitment to improving community wellbeing through sustainable development across Tanzania. Made possible through the generous sponsorship of the Jaffer Rashid Muraj Family, the project has transformed daily life in Mabana, providing over 3,500 residents with reliable access to clean and safe water.
Objectives of the project:
- Providing sustainable, improved access to clean and safe water for residents of Mabana Village.
- Reducing time spent fetching water, particularly for women and children.
- Improving hygiene, sanitation, and reduce waterborne illnesses.
- Supporting small-scale irrigation and livestock farming for better livelihoods.
- Fostering community ownership through the establishment of a local water committee.
During the event, Mr. Imtiaz Lalji, Chairman of the LALJI FOUNDATION, emphasized the importance of clean water as the foundation of good health and sustainable livelihoods. He urged the community to safeguard the well for future generations. Mabana Village Chairman, Mr. Mande Henry Magona, expressed gratitude on behalf of the villagers, noting that the project has brought much-needed relief and hope to the community.
