On 30th July 2026, LALJI FOUNDATION handed over the Chanzuru Shallow Well project in Kilosa District, Morogoro Region. The project was implemented in Chanzuru Village as part of the Foundation’s community development initiatives. The shallow well was established in memory of the late Marhum Mzee Muslim Fazal Kassam, the beloved eldest family member who passed away on 12th July 2026 at the age of 91. He was remembered by his family and community for his compassion, warmth, and generosity. The project represents a meaningful tribute to his life and legacy.
Objectives of the project:
- Providing clean and safe water for daily household needs in Chanzuru Village.
- Reducing the distance and time spent collecting water.
- Improving hygiene and sanitation within the community.
- Reducing the risk of water-related diseases through safer water access.
- Improving the overall quality of life for community members.
- Supporting sustainable community development.
- Reducing reliance on distant or unsafe water sources.
- Supporting women and children who often carry the responsibility of collecting water.
Speaking during the handover, Denis Madilo, Village Chairman, thanked LALJI FOUNDATION for supporting the construction of the shallow well. He explained that the project would help address the community’s water needs and make safe water more accessible. Meanwhile, Mr. Imtiaz Lalji, Chairman of LALJI FOUNDATION, reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to providing essential services such as clean and safe water. He emphasized that the project would support better health, hygiene, and sustainable development in the community.
The project benefited 400 community members by providing a more accessible and reliable source of water. As a result, residents will spend less time searching for water and have greater opportunities to focus on farming, education, and other daily activities.
