Shallow Well at Rozi Improves Water Access in Kilosa

Well Water Kilosa - All participants

LALJI FOUNDATION has handed over a new shallow water well to Rozi Village in Magomeni Ward, Kilosa District, Morogoro Region. Preparations ran from 16th July to 25th August 2026, when Shallow Well No. 014 was officially handed over. It brings safe water closer to rural families who previously walked long distances to fetch it.

Objectives of the project:

  • Improve access to safe and reliable water for Rozi residents.
  • Reduce the time and distance spent collecting water, especially for women and children.
  • Improve hygiene, sanitation, and community health.
  • Free up time for farming, small businesses, and education.
  • Strengthen resilience to water shortages during dry periods.

The well serves 5,323 beneficiaries. Families can now collect water for drinking, cooking, washing, and cleaning much closer to home. Women, children, and the elderly no longer face long walks, and the time saved can go to farming, small businesses, and schooling. The project was made possible by the generous support of the families of the late Haiderally Jawad Aziz and the late Mukhtar Sajaan.

Speaking at the handover, Village Chairman Mr. Saidi Mahandu thanked the Foundation for responding to the community’s needs and urged residents to protect and maintain the well. Mr. Imtiaz Lalji, Chairman of Lalji Foundation, said access to clean water is essential for health, hygiene, and development. He encouraged the community to take ownership of the facility so it can serve future generations, and he confirmed that the Foundation will continue building shallow wells in villages across Tanzania.
