Making the Gift of Clear Vision Accessible to Korogwe

Lalji foundation eye camp for better vision in Korogwe

Poor eyesight can limit a person’s ability to work or carry out everyday activities. Yet access to proper eye care remains out of reach for many families. In Korogwe District, LALJI FOUNDATION joined hands with Baraka Foundation and Vision 4 All Eye Centre to bring free eye-care services to the community. The camp took place at Magunga Hospital from 28th to 30th August 2026.

Objectives of the project:

  • Providing free eye screening and examinations to community members.
  • Offering free treatment, medicines, reading glasses and eye surgery to patients in need.
  • Improving access to quality eye-care services for underserved communities.
  • Reducing the financial burden of eye treatment.
  • Raising awareness about the importance of regular eye examinations.
  • Strengthening partnerships in delivering essential healthcare services.

Speaking during the event, Zahara Msangi, Director of Korogwe Town Council, appreciated LALJI FOUNDATION, Baraka Foundation and Vision 4 All Eye Centre for bringing these services closer to the community. She highlighted the importance of continued collaboration in improving access to healthcare. Similarly, Dr. Miriam Brigita Cheche, Town Medical Officer at Magunga Hospital, emphasized the importance of early screening and timely treatment in preventing avoidable vision problems. Dr. Hussen Abbas, Regional Eye Coordinator, also acknowledged the partners for making essential eye-care services accessible to people in need.

The three-day eye camp screened 3,259 people, performed 291 cataract surgeries and 39 minor surgeries. In addition, 1,706 pairs of glasses were distributed, while 1,723 people received medicines. These services helped address immediate eye-care needs and gave many community members an opportunity to improve their vision. Furthermore, the initiative strengthened cooperation between healthcare providers, development partners and local authorities in supporting community health.
