LALJI FOUNDATION, in partnership with Vision 4 All Eye Centre, organized a Free Eye Camp in Buzebazeba, Ujiji, Kigoma from 3rd to 6th April 2026 . The initiative brought essential eye care services closer to underserved communities.
Objectives of the project:
- Provide free eye screening services to underserved community members.
- Detect and diagnose eye conditions at an early stage.
- Offer free treatment, medication, and professional eye care advice.
- Distribute eyeglasses to improve vision and quality of life.
- Refer patients with serious eye conditions for specialized treatment.
- Raise awareness about eye health and the prevention of avoidable blindness.
- Improve access to quality healthcare for vulnerable and low-income communities.
The project exceeded its original target. Although it planned to serve 3,000 people, the eye camp screened 5,079 patients. It also distributed 2,218 pairs of eyeglasses, performed 448 cataract surgeries and 91 minor surgeries, and provided medication to 3,215 patients. As a result, thousands of people regained better vision, received timely treatment, and learned more about protecting their eye health.
Speaking during the event, Mohsin Lalji, Patron of LALJI FOUNDATION, said the Foundation organized the eye camp to address the growing need for accessible eye care in rural communities. He emphasized that restoring sight improves both quality of life and economic productivity. Furthermore, he reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to expanding healthcare outreach programmes across Tanzania through strong partnerships with healthcare professionals and community stakeholders.
