Empowering Kondoa Women with Sunflower Processing Machines

Lalji foundation with kondoa women beneficiaries

The LALJI FOUNDATION has boosted women’s economic prospects in Kondoa District, Dodoma Region, by donating sunflower‑processing machines worth TSh 18,409,000 to the JAI women’s group. By turning locally grown sunflower seeds into market‑ready cooking oil, these women can now keep more value within their community and chart a path toward financial independence.

Objectives of the Sunflower Processing Initiative:

  • Increase rural incomes by enabling women to process and sell higher‑value sunflower oil.
  • Promote local agro‑processing industries, sparking job creation in Kondoa.
  • Foster entrepreneurship and self‑reliance through hands‑on business and technical training.
  • Cut post‑harvest losses by adding value to sunflower crops close to the farm gate.

With strong community ownership, clear maintenance plans, and reinvestment of profits into education and other ventures, this women‑led enterprise is poised to become a model of rural transformation, one the Lalji Foundation hopes to replicate across Tanzania.
