The LALJI FOUNDATION, in collaboration with the Muhimbili Orthopaedic Institute (MOI), launched a vital health initiative to sponsor surgeries for children with hydrocephalus and spina bifida, life-threatening conditions affecting infants and young children in Tanzania. The project, conducted from June 5 to June 28, 2025, provided free neurosurgical treatment, post-op care, and rehabilitation to children from underserved and rural communities.
The handover event was held on July 1, 2025, at Muhimbili Hospital, Dar es Salaam, and is part of the Foundation’s broader mission to improve healthcare access and equity for Tanzania’s most vulnerable groups.
Objectives of the program to fund surgeries for Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus are as follows:
- To provide life-saving neurosurgical care to children.
- To reduce mortality and disability caused by the conditions.
- To support long-term care and recovery.
- To raise awareness for early diagnosis and treatment.
