School Uniforms Initiative: Education Made Possible for Vulnerable Children

On 10th January 2026, LALJI FOUNDATION supported 400 orphaned children in Ilala District, Dar es Salaam, through the donation of school uniforms and essential school kits. The initiative aimed to remove financial barriers that often prevent vulnerable children from attending school, ensuring they begin the academic year with dignity, confidence, and equal opportunity.

Each child received two sets of school uniforms and a school bag, easing the burden on caregivers and helping reduce school absenteeism and dropout rates caused by poverty.

Objectives of the project:

  • Ensuring orphans and vulnerable children have access to quality education through school uniforms and learning materials.
  • Reducing school dropout rates linked to poverty and lack of basic educational resources.
  • Improving confidence, dignity, and overall well-being among orphaned children.
  • Creating a supportive environment that enables children to reach their academic potential.
  • Easing the financial burden on caregivers of orphans.

Speaking during the event, Mohsin Lalji (Sheni), Patron of LALJI FOUNDATION, reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to restoring hope, dignity, and opportunity for orphaned children, noting that education empowers them to become future leaders and contributors to society. Fatema Imtiaz Lalji, Secretary of LALJI FOUNDATION, expressed gratitude to partners, leaders, and volunteers whose support made the initiative possible.

The project benefited children from multiple orphanage centres across Dar es Salaam and received wide media coverage through IBN TV, TBC, Clouds, ITV, Channel Ten, as well as print features in Daily News, The Guardian, Habari Leo, and Nipashe.
