Between 23rd June and 6th July 2026, LALJI FOUNDATION, in partnership with Chama Cha Wanawake Wajane Tanzania (CCWWT), donated 50 modern beehives to widowed women in Kibaha District, Pwani Region, and Sumbawanga District, Rukwa Region.
Objectives of the project:
- Empowering widowed women through sustainable income-generating activities.
- Providing practical beekeeping skills and entrepreneurship training.
- Promoting the rights, dignity, and social inclusion of widowed women.
- Strengthening partnerships that support women’s empowerment and community development.
- Encouraging financial literacy, savings, and entrepreneurship for long-term economic stability.
The project directly benefited 200 widowed women across Pwani and Rukwa regions. As a result, beneficiaries gained access to sustainable livelihood opportunities through honey production and other bee-related products.
Speaking during the handover ceremonies in Kibaha and Sumbawanga, Fatema Imtiaz Lalji, Honorary Secretary of LALJI FOUNDATION, and Judith Kahatano, the Foundation’s Projects Coordinator, encouraged the beneficiaries to embrace beekeeping as a sustainable source of income. They emphasized responsible hive management to maximize honey production, strengthen household incomes, and create lasting economic opportunities.
Hon. Ally Mwinyi Simba, Councillor of Kibaha Municipal Council, commended LALJI FOUNDATION and CCWWT for investing in sustainable livelihood projects. He noted that the initiative would not only improve the lives of widowed women but also contribute to environmental conservation, local economic development, and poverty reduction.
